Certified Fiber Optics Technician Training (CFOT)

This program is brought to you in collaboration with Ryson Communications Group- Fiber Optic Assoc. (FOA) approved school No. 727

This class has been developed with 16 hours of classroom lecture and 16 hours of hands-on skills labs to provide practical understanding and skills required to properly design, install, and maintain fi ber optic networks.

Telecommunications, manufacturing, data centers and, increasingly, utilities rely on fiber optics technology for secure data communications. However, the growing communication requirements of the industry have increased the need for engineers/ technicians who understand fiber optics installation requirements. Students will use the latest fi ber optic technology and equipment to learn how to splice, connectorize, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber networks in order to increase efficiency, reliability and on-the-job safety as well as reduce cost and downtime.

    Learning objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be qualified to:

    • Determine appropriate fiber for different applications
    • Inspect, install and test connectors using the epoxy polish method to EIA/TIA standards
    • Identify damage to cables and associated causes
    • Install fiber optic cable
    • Test fiber optic cable for EIA/TIA acceptable losses
    • Utilize an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and light source/power meter
    • Install mechanical and fusion splices to EIA/TIA standards
    • Identify and specify components for a fiber optic system
    • Budget for losses in fiber optic systems
    • Utilize attenuators to adjust power levels (DBM) at the receiver

    Target audience:

Telecommunications professionals, engineers, and designers of fiber optic distribution systems, LAN administrators and persons planning to enter careers in Telecommunications distribution. The course is structured to suit several application needs that include but not limited to telecommunications, cable television, local and wide area networks, wireless networks and power & water  utility.

    Duration 5 days

With this course, students will complete the Fiber Optics Association (FOA) exam for Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) certification.

    Mode:
Fiber Optic Association Certified Instructor led
